Definition of a Potted History

My potted histories sit somewhere between short overviews that can often be found on the Internet and full-blown books. They typically vary in length from 5 to 6K words at the bottom end, up to 20K+ words at the top end, depending on the subject and the amount of existing information that is available on it.

If the reader is interested to learn more about a given subject, I provide a modest bibliography section with each piece plus lots of links to material that can be found on the Internet.

I guess that I have three simple objectives with my pieces: to produce something which is informative, readable and provides some context within which the subject sits.

A note for serious readers or students. While these potted histories may provide a useful introduction to a subject, they are in no way to be considered a replacement for scholarly works. They are not intended to be complete histories.
